Fourth Raffle Entry

I’m enjoying this too much. >:)

A fourth impeachment complaint had been filed. This time it was by Marlen Abigail Binay, daughter of Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, together with other students from UP Diliman and Manila, St. Paul’s College, and Mapua.

The new complaint is similar to those filed by former vice-president Teofisto Guingona, Zenaida “Nini” Quezon-Avanceña and Caloocan City Bishop Deogracias Yñiguez.

Well, somebody is following in the footsteps of her father. (A bit too close I say.) But we get it. Really. I get the whole we-the-students-care-about-the-political-future-because-we-are-the-future idea. You can read the rest of the article here.

This whole exercise is getting ridiculous already. I mean seriously. If concerned citizens will not stop submitting their complaints, can House Secretary-General Roberto Nazareno at least stop accepting the complaints?

Sigh. I wonder who will submit the fifth complaint.

Hula ko, artista naman.

In this Inquirer article, a third complaint was submitted by Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez of the CBCP.

Iñiguez and his Kilusang Makabansang Ekonomiya filed the third impeachment complaint against the President in as many days under an opposition strategy to ensure that the charges are not dismissed on technicalities.

The second complaint was filed by former VP Teofisto Guingona the other day. Don’t these people know that they can only file one complaint? In a reply to my comment, Ms. Sassy Lawyer clarified that “only the first complaint will be given due course.” If that’s the case, then people should really stop submitting their “own” version of the first complaint. Sayang sa papel!

And can somebody please once and for all, give us the time stamp of the complaint last year. Or rather, just tell us when the new complaint should have been submitted. Some of us are simply too dumb and too tamad to know when to start counting the days.

Impeachment: Ikalawang Yugto

And so, after one year after the first impeachment complaint went out the window, a new (and improved!) impeachment complaint was filed again today. This article in Inquirer also gives a list of complaints.

My initial reaction to the list: it looks pretty damn solid. [Then again, looks can be deceiving.] And it will all depend on how the opposition will handle the case up until it reaches the Senate. Since its first dismissal last year due to "technicalities", much have already happened. This time around, it goes beyond the Garci tapes and election rigging. Some of the complaints now include EO 464 and State of Emergency related issues.

Thus, this time, I think following how this case unfolds is definitely worth it.

In the mean time, some people should already start thinking about what will happen after Arroyo gets impeached, if ever. Do we still do Cha-Cha? Do we slide to a parliamentary form of government? And more importantly, who do we have as a potential substitute for Gloria?

Hmm. Wala pa rin. Oh well. We'll cross the bridge when we get there.

If we ever get there.

Death to Death Penalty

In this Inquirer article, the Death Penalty law is dead. Did they really do this so that they have a "gift" to the new pope? Perhaps. There are certain groups complaining about how fast the it was abolished. [And yet, we also complain how slow most laws are enacted. It's always a lose-lose situation.] They may have a point.

But the thing with the Death Penalty law is, did it significantly reduce crime rates? Did it serve its main purpose, which is to deter heinous crimes? I think not. In some countries, it may did in the past but our situation here has been different. So we cannot expect that the implementation of such a law significantly affects the commission of heinous crimes. It's not even mainly about the high moral standards that are being taught and upheld by the Catholic Church.

And this comment by Dante Jimenez in the same article is so foolish.

Strike 4 for Indonesia

Another strong earthquake hits Indonesia according to this Yahoo! News. This time, the 6.2 magnitude quake hits central Indonesia. As of this writing, no immediate casualties and injuries have been reported yet maybe because it happened under sea southwest of Sulawesi. Perhaps later during the day. But nonetheless, it was felt by the locals near the epicenter.

I really don't know what to make of this. I'm pretty sure earthquakes happen almost all the time in various magnitudes around the Pacific ring of fire. However, I'm finding it mind-boggling, slightly bordering on ridiculous, that Indonesia seems to be a favorite target of pretty strong quakes. I'm not sure if I should be thankful that the ground doesn't shake under our foot, or if I should be extra cautious that the Philippines might be next on the list.

At any rate, I hope the damage that this recent event might not be as bad as the recent and not-so-recent ones, but if I were living there, my confidence that I would wake up with my home still standing up or that I would wake up alive and uncrushed is definitely damaged.

More Custom Header Images

They did it again! I just learned that WordPress team has added custom header option to more of their themes! I'm not stuck with green anymore. Hehe 🙂

I find it funny how now that I have dsl, I'm finding it more difficult to write/comment about other current events such as the resurrection of the impeachment complaint against Arroyo, the all-out attack agains NPA, customizing Friendster, etc. So many things to write about, so little time. Or actually, so little energy to all of them.

Recently, I was also able to download gigs and gigs of media files, and I have only seen less than five of them. And I think I need to back-up my files because this computer is running a bit slower everyday. I hope it's not being caused by a nasty virus or worm or spyware. Sigh. The things that come with high speed internet.

Connections Theme

Here's something new about the Connections theme of WordPress: custom header images!

Yep! Very exciting news. I know a lot of people have been waiting for this option. Looks cool.

Here comes my problem. The rest of the theme still looks the same: greenish. So if ever I'm going to use a header image of my own (or from the web), it has to be of the same color, or at least, it must compliment the green-ness of Connections. And the alignment of the words in the sidebar looks funny. I'm not sure if it's becuase I'm using Firefox. (Will check if it looks okay with Internet Explorer in a while. UPDATE: Yeah, still looks funny. But I don't want to shorten some the contents just to make it look better. Hmm.)

But it's a great start! Bravo WordPress team! I'm sure you're taking it one element at a time. Keep up developments coming!
